Born in The Bronx, New York, Kathleen Emperatriz "Kat" DeLuna is a pop and R&B singer of Dominican heritage. She has won a Latin Billboard Music Award for her debut single "Whine Up." She has released one studio album, 9 Lives, and is currently at work on her second studio album, Inside Out which was released on November 5 in Belgium.
DeLuna attended the New Jersey School of the Performing Arts. DeLuna and her friends formed a R&B group called Coquette, and in 2004, when Kat was 17, Coquette opened for a Cassidy concert in New Jersey. In 2006, DeLuna decided to pursue a solo career and was signed by Epic Records.
DeLuna's album, 9 Lives, was released in August 2007. It peaked at number fifty-eight on the Billboard 200 selling 11,000 copies in its first week.
While DeLuna's has not a great deal of success in the US, she is very successful in other countries. In France, her single "Run The Show" held the number one position for multiple weeks. Additionally, at the Latin Billboard Music Awards 2008, DeLuna won the 'Latin Dance Club Play Track Of The Year' Award for her single "Whine Up."
In late 2007, DeLuna also collaborated with Omarion for the single "Cut Off Time" which served as the lead single from the Feel the Noise soundtrack. The song peaked at number twenty-three on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (number one-hundred-twenty-three on the Hot 100).

In September 2008, DeLuna performed the US National Anthem at Texas Stadium during the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. The performance garnered much media attention because of the booing during and after her performance. It went on to land the number one spot on Billboard Magazine's "10 Worst National Anthem Performances Ever" in 2010.
Despite the negative press afterwards, DeLuna's international popularity continued. In October 2008, "Breathing Your Love," a collaboration with Swedish singer Darin Zanyar, was released and went on to reach number two in Sweden and number thirteen in Finland. DeLuna was dropped from Epic Records in 2008 and went on to sign a record deal with Universal Motown.
Kat began work on her second album and in 2008 DeLuna premiered a new song, "Calling You." In January 2009 DeLuna released "Unstoppable," featuring Lil' Wayne, as a single from the Confessions of a Shopaholic soundtrack.
